Brett is a cybersecurity practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in consulting, speaking, teaching, and research. He holds multiple certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC). As a cybersecurity professor at the University of Dallas, Brett is frequently asked to present on cybersecurity in the U.S., Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. He has been active in the University’s Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, which is designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). His research in the areas of cybersecurity, IT management, network architecture, and disaster recovery has been widely published and presented to both professional and academic audiences.
During his years in industry, Brett developed network and security solutions at Hibernia National Bank (now Capital One Bank) and Mississippi State University. As a professor at the University of New Orleans, he led a campus-wide network redesign to address critical outages. While serving as the Dean of UD’s Satish & Yasmin Gupta College of Business, Brett’s accomplishments were highlighted when he received the Dallas CEO 500 Award recognizing the 500 most influential business leaders in North Texas for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
Brett attended the University of New Orleans, where he graduated with a B.S. in Management with a concentration in Management Information Systems. He received his MS in IT, an MBA, and Ph.D. in Technology Education from Mississippi State University.
In his current role with GreatCo-Ops, Brett can assess specific cybersecurity needs and provide solutions tailored for each co-op, based on years of experience across multiple industries. Brett is an avid cyclist, is active in his North Texas Rotary club, and is a member of his local co-op.
